I preface my question with a warning that I'm a paper type of layout designer who may have gotten himself in too deep with the Web design.
I've set up my magazines Web site, which contains four frames. One, the masthead, which will always appear at the top. Two, the navbar area, which will also...
I´m exporting to PDF from Quark because our printer doesn't have quark and it's the easiest solution. But when I export the files there's a small problem. On screen our shaded lettering shows up correctly in PDF file, but when we print the PDF files the shaded lettering shoes up with the same...
I've talked to Quark about this a lot. We also needed to purchase a used copy. €1.999 is a bit out of our price range. Anyway, the gist of what they told me is that it would not be illegal to buy the used copy. In fact, they directed me to eBay and MercadoLibre. But, you would not be able to...
This is a lot to ask, but if someone can help me with this, I promise I'll pass the knowledge on to others.
My service bureau can't handle my version of quark, which only saves as far back as 4.0. They have 3.3.
To get arounf this, we're exporting to a flipped, negative PDF file.
Our...
My service bureau can't handle my version of quark, which only saves as far back as 4.0. They have 3.3.
To get arounf this, we're exporting to a flipped, negative PDF file.
Our problem is two-fold.
One, when we export to PDF through Distiller, we get individual pages. It's not sending the...
When I apply my A-Master page to the first page of my document, none of the images, i.e. the mast head for the paper, appear.
I don't want to have to paste the items everytime I start a new document from the master. Afterall, that's what a master is for.
Thanks for any help
OK, I´m lost. Does anyone know how I need to prepare my images for single-ink printing?
Our printer will use one ink, so I suppose I need to rasterize my images, or something like that. Do they need to be saved as EPS, Tiff, or GIF? And more importantly, what are the settings that I need to...
Thanks, Tony. Settings worked great, even at a 10 point font. Allowing for character spacing, which I hadn't allowed before, was the key.

James
I definitely can't leave it ragged right, but I'll try playing around with the hyphenation zone. Right now, the zone is set to 0, which means that theoretically Quark has my permission to hyphenate any word at the end of a line, as long as it meets the "characters before, characters...
Thanks, Tony. I'm using QuarkXpress 5.0. It's a closed A4 size publication. (Folded sheets of A3). Since I'm not at work, I don't have the exact width of the columns. But it's easy to figure out: The master guides are set to four columns with a 0.25" gutter.
The four-columns spreads use...
I have a lot of copy that has been written on word that I need to drop into Quark. The tab/indent has been set in quark 5.0 to .2 inches. But when I import the text, i´m stuck with the original indents from word, whatever size they were.
That´s if they come through. Sometimes they don´t come...
I have pre-established a huge number of h&j settings, some supposedly tight. min:60 optimum:70 max:80, others looser: min:95, opt:100, max: 115.
But I´m still getting huge gaps in my text, too many to correct manually across all pages.
My editor, who knows little about design and less about...
