Dangerous and generally foolish, but if you wanna do it then... Dont forget about Views, stored procedures and every single other SQL statement that accesses the database. Sounds like a big impact list to me!
I agree this is almost certainly the case. We had a methodology of 1000 inserts per commit to try and minimise this. Could be an index rebuild problem considering the number of inserts, check how many indexes you have on the table and consider temporarily disabling them, but only if you can...
Borland have released a 'Delphi for .NET' preview recently at the same time as Delphi 7. It is not a fully functional, full spec implementation but a preview of what they plan.
