Hi Again
Just to say that adminsys site sorted me out.
First I shut all the vm's down and restarted the host - no joy.
Then I migrated the host and the datastore - still had a ton of snapshots (up to 56), so I shutdown the veeam server and tried consolidating again.... and it finally worked...
Hi ArizonaGeek
Thanks for the reply, sorry for the delay - I've been on other sites.
I'd already done everything from the 1st link, that 2nd link looks really good though - I'm gonna run thru that tomorrow.
I had a call open with Veeam support - they say it is not their snapshots - and I have...
This morning in vCenter one of my VM's was flagged with a warning that it needed consolidating. I have been attempting to consolidate it without having any luck so far. I am running two Esx5.1 hosts.
First I tried to consolidate from snapshot manager and I got an error about locked files...
Wow it worked :-)
(i changed the cost of the default connector to 2 before i read this so i will change it back tomorrow).
I ticked the TLS checkbox for the default receive connector.
I created a new send connector just for that domain and tick the TLS checkbox.
A 5 minute job at the most...
Hi ShackDaddy.
Thank you so much for that.
Yes I have a valid public cert. I thought that either I had to get a new one or I had to swap the public certificate with the other organisation - in fact I sent the other sysadmin our public key after deciding I didn't need a new one, so he probably...
Hi
I have a requirement to secure the traffic from my company domain (CompanyA.co.uk) to another domain (CompanyB.com), and also (obviously) I do not want to disrupt the rest of my company email! I have got tremendously confused researching this today and yesterday.
Currently we have one...
Hi,
I have a physical server running windows server 2003 64bit.
Recently it constantly prompts me to install 1 critical windows update (kb2742596) which is an update for .NET 2.0 SP2.
I have installed this update about 4 or 5 times. Each time i get the window saying update was installed...
Hi, this is a small problem for a few weeks now that has me stummped:
I've got 2 workstations, they are set up the same, both have Office 2010 installed - including Word and Outlook.
On the good client the autoformat works fine, if i type "i" Outlook will change it to an "I", if i type "isnt"...
Hi BBB
Just to update (and close) this one.
I hit it with a sledge hammer yesterday - i re-installed windows and it works.
I was pretty sure that would fix it and it was also a good reason for a couple of other reasons (got the user in question a faster hard drive).
I do like fixing windows...
Hi Geates
I don't even have those registry entries (the final bit - ProxyEnable and ProxyServer).
But i figure this is a good thing....
I have also been trying to remove all plugins from IE and take it back to just Google (had the ask toolbar, and yahoo, and some canon stuff). I am telling...
I have the following issue on 3 machines and i was wondering if anyone else has had anything like this.
Summary: Firefox works (ver 12.0), but Internet Explorer (ver 8 or 9) doesn't.
More detail:
On the XP machine, i cannot run Enterprise Manager (Oracle web admin) from IE8 - page cannot be...
To anyone who was curious:
I have just rebuilt my problem pc with a clean copy of windows 7 (reformatted the entire c drive). Have just installed ATI drivers and ultramon (dual monitor utlity), and it is Perfect :-). No horizontal black lines anywhere. Turns out it was software after all. Wow -...
No, never used that one. If it's quick i might try that as a prelude to a rebuild. Currently this problem pc is at the back of the office so i don't have to look at it. Soon as i get some time i'm going to put in the windows disk and reformat. This thread convinced me that it was windows itself...
Yes the business depends on Oracle, but I don't ever want to think that my job depends on this database.... And if Oracle really exploded we would turn to SQLServer. The reason we don't is because Oracle runs significantly faster, I found this out the hard way by switching to SQLServer and then...
The thing that got me on this one is that the option to upgrade the vmware hardware version is only visible on the context menu of a powered down vm. As far as I know there is no other way to do it.
While the vm is on the option just isn't there.
All my servers were up, i didn't think to power...
My conclusions:
Oracle recovery no matter how you shut it down is very solid - i.e. it always seems to come back!
'shutdown immediate' is what works and what i will continue to use and what causes the least amount of erros in the alert log.
'shutdown' doesn't work and there is no point in ever...
Thanks guys. So basically I don't have to worry about using 'shutdown immediate' - that's reassuring.
Why couldn't Metalink just tell me that? For 2 weeks i have been asking them! and i have been posting alert logs and trace files....
But yeah, maybe it's time for a new consultant - hmmmm...
Thanks, that seems pretty conclusive.
I take this to mean that while Windows supposedly tells Oracle to shut down first no-one is really sure if this really works and all experts shutdown their databases manually.
Oracle and Windows not talking to each other has definitely been the worst part...
Thanks for all suggestions.
If i'd had time to come in this weekend i would have swapped the hard disks, brilliant idea! Why didn't i think of that?
didn't try the new video card in an alternative interface idea cos there's only one pci-e x16 slot, don't have any other kinds of grafix card...
