have to agree with TheLAD, the drive does not need to be blank (although prefferred) the existing info from the arry,controller and system board will take pecidence over any info on the drive.
my understanding is that when the supply returns, the ups resets which will return the power to the servers (they are still switched on) thus the servers come back up and reboot.
We have in excess of 200 servers that act in this way with no problem, no-one has to drive in to power them on only...

Use the Security Override Feature on the ILO server to allow the use of the F8 ROM Based Setup for the ILO. Then reset the settings to the factory defaults. Do not forget to set a new Administrator's password.

Vax 4600 (assume you mean vax 4000-600) did not ship with scsi as standard. Disks were normally DSSI inteface.
If scsi were installed it would be on a KZQSA controller
Drives on the DSSI bus will be prefixed RF whislt SCSi will be prefixed RZ
