****Case Closed****
We finally have closed this issue. After much troubleshooting with LGTO/STK/Seagate support teams, the problem was with the drive firmware and had to be dealt with directly from Seagate. Thanks to everyone for your tek-tips (couldn't resist!)

Ionix,
Are you able to use the native mt command to compare the results with mtinfo? Is so I would like to know what block size Networker thinks its using on those drives. If you can run mt -f /dev/rmt/Xcbn stat | more and see what numbers you get with a tape mounted in the drive. I thought...
Jim,
The difference we seem to have is that my blocksize in legato is 64K and all my drives are set to write with 64k blocksize. From your daemon log it looks like you have some tapes that have been formatted on another device/diff settings with 32K. Your 9840 tapes are supposed to be written...
We've done restores of legato clients to both identical and non-identical hardware here. After you drop the system state onto the new client and you have to reboot, try putting the NT4 CD back in and doing an inspect/repair on your NT system files(Helps if you have an ERD handy). Since you are...
Hello All,
I have been blessed with the task of planning an exchange migration from lotus notes. Our parent company is on exchange but the high brass here does not want to become a site under an existing org, but rather become a seperate org even though we are under the parent company in terms...
We're using LTO with our STK which claim 15mb/s uncomp. native transfer rate. I can't vouch for SDLT, but seeing as they're direct competitors it should be close. Our server is also the storage node so it can bypass TCP/IP overhead for backups so we get 14 mb/s for the server with...
Are you running NW for UNIX or NT? For now I will assume NT reply if you need the UNIX version. All of the NW operator procedures should be in your administrators guide for Legato, you can get a new copy from legato web site if you need it.
When you created the pool you defined the...
For the boxes with connection refused msg. Try stopping the remote exec service on the client and then look at the rservers file in nsr\res make sure your server name is still there if not replace it, save it, then restart the remote exec service. Open either NW user or admin from the client...
We use the DL380R as our backup server also. So I assume this library has dlt8k drives? What SCSI Controllers are you using? and do you have the latest drivers? What part of the lib is slow access meaning the time it takes to deposit/withdraw or mount/unmount or do you mean access seek data on...
ditech,
Did you define your tape library using the jbconfig command or did you let NW autodetect your lib? Have you used this configuration on a server other than 2000 and had similiar poor performance? Please advise your exact hardware: OS: Lib: DLT8k drives? Drive Interface: SCSI cards...
Shayfever,
When was the last time these servers were being backedup correctly? What changes were then made to either the NW clients or the NW Unix Server? Usually you get not a registered client when the clients name doesn't matche what is defined in the hosts file for the Server, or the name...
Hey jpj,
I have an STKL40 with 3LTO Ultrium Drives on a NT Network and before we went to the 1400 firmware revision we had the problem of tapes being marked full prematurely. Since your problem has been resolved, have you tried restoring data from any of your tapes that were...
I haven't actually heard that you need to change the sleep value but it does make sense. Not all libraries perform tape operations at the same speed, for instance DLT seek times are at least 2X faster than LTO. Different Pickers or robotic arms perform library functions at different speeds...
Don't thank me yet.....
We've found out a few days ago that the positioning error has resurfaced even while the noimmediate mode is in use. BTW don't forget to stop/start the services after creating the noimmediate file. Please let me know if you continue to see the problem. Also, could you...

I just have a couple of questions. I'm mostly familiar with NT4 but we have a few Win2k servers which I work with, this doesn't sound like an OS issue so the stuff below might be relevant.
First do you have a valid networker license, or do you keep uninstall/install an eval version? Second...
What is the exact authentication error you are recieving? Are you getting connection refused? From the clients that fail, can you start both the networker admin and user programs from them and succesfully connect to the backup server? You might also want to try assigning priorities to each...
