    recovery via backint with legato takes a very long time

    Nothing wrong there. It does take MUCH longer restoring than backing up with Legato as it is optimized for backing up It can only read one session at a time, because the tape position can't be at more than one place at once (einstein had a theory about it, or otherwise it's just common sense)...
