Sorry it took so long to get back with you guys. My email was being auto-sorted to my junk-mailbox. Now that I've gotten that straightened out, I can follow up with what I had to do.
I went ahead and reinstalled the OS into the original c:\windows directory. I did suspect that I would have to...
Please don't ask details about how I've ended up to where I'm at now. I've got no time to explain.
I did a Win98se install from a genuine MS CD-ROM onto a system that had been upgraded from Win95 to Win98 with an upgrade disk. Instead of installing into the existing C:\Windows folder, I chose...
I think that you do have a corrupt driver. That would explain the VGA standard that you're getting. I've never deleted a driver before. Normally, you would get into the device manager, and delete whichever hardware you want drivers to be re-installed for. On reboot, the PNP would reinstall the...
When you are unable to choose your color depth and resolution combination, you'll have to do the following. First, verify that the video card is properly identified in Windows and that the card's memory is working properly. Using diagnostic software provided by the video card or chipset maker to...
Like I had stated, it was a setting that didn't appear in my system.ini file. Click Start - Run. In the run field, type msconfig. From there, you'll see the selections for each of your ini files. That was where I unchecked the display.drv=pnpdrvr.drv entry.
I'm creating a program that inputs three integers, and returns the sum, product, average, largest and smallest. Very simple, but I'm getting a bad return on one of my variables. Except for my "largest" variable, the others are returning the correct numbers. I'm hoping that someone can...
I'm assuming that you do have your LAN set up correctly, with both machines in the same subnet. If not, then that would be the first place to look.
Are both machines network settings enabled? How are the patch cords connecting them to the LAN?
After scanning your drive with NAV, were you still getting reports on Klez? I've run an anti-virus check three times now, and it seems to be free of viruses. Once I do the OS upgrade to XP Pro, I'll update SystemWorks, and do another virus check.
I've found the answer. It was something in the boot section of the system.ini file. More specifically, it was a line that didn't show up in my copy 'n paste of the system.ini file at all. It was, display.drv=pnpdrvr.drv, which is the display driver of course. Derr! Now that I've got that figured...
I've narrowed the problem down to my system.ini file. Can someone tell me which part I don't need? I've got it posted below:
[boot]
system.drv=system.drv
drivers=mmsystem.dll
user.exe=user.exe
gdi.exe=gdi.exe
sound.drv=mmsound.drv
dibeng.drv=dibeng.dll
comm.drv=comm.drv
mouse.drv=mouse.drv...
I'm working on a friends computer that was infected with the Klez virus. It was working for her the other day, but now won't boot up past the splash screen.
My first task was to innoculate the virus. I took out the HD, and slaved it in my isolated computer. I then ran NAV on it, and got most of...
Although I haven't begun my studies for SCSA, I've earned my CCNA already. My opinion on your question though is this. You have already dipped yourself into Solaris, why not further your knowledge by going the network route for it? I would suggest doing the SCNA, and afterwards, then do your...
How can I stop Netscape from starting?
I've got a small irritant that has me ready to eliminate it. My problem is Netscape Navigator 4.72. It is installed onto a shared computer running Win2k at work. I was hoping to install 6.2, which I did, but the guys who uses Netscape hadn't switched to...
I saved about $40 on my exam by purchasing a test voucher from http://www.getcertified4less.com. It worked great! When I scheduled my appointment for my exam, I told them that I'll be paying with a voucher, and they were okay with that. If you do buy a voucher, be sure to purchase the one that...
This previous August, I had passed my CCNA with a 949. I was so pumped up from my results, I decided to get the Network+. Two weeks later, I was N+ certified.
To prepare for the N+ exam, I used Sybex's book by David Groth, ISBN: 0-7821-4014-9. I felt that it was adequate at getting me prepared...
Like most people, I agree that hands-on experience will win out over a newbie with cert in hand. However, I also agree that in order to get your foot in the door, then you should become certified.
In my experience of job hunting, I have dealt with lead-ITs who required a certification before...
I had recently upgraded several core components to my WinXP Pro system. That included the mobo, CPU/HSF, RAM, SCSI adapter, SCSI HD.
Prior to my major upgrade, everything on my system worked fine. I was able to burn CDs without a hitch. A few days ago, I picked up a 48x12x48x LiteON CD-RW...
