I'm curious to the answer to this question as well. I'm looking into scripting a Direct IP printer instance on each computer based off the client's IP. Mainly to avoid spooling print jobs over the WAN.
Our company has a number of different locations, each with a number of printers. Normally we would just add these printers to a print server, however these locations don't have a print server. I would like to develop a script to do the following:
1. Remove all installed printers (except for...
I can add printers via an Active Directory group. That is no problem. However, is it possible to determine what org unit a user is in and add a printer based off of that?
I mean for example, a laptop outside of the WAN that is using some public internet access. Hotel, airport, or whatever. The laptop will send a 'beacon' packet with the ip address it is using and inventory changes. The Everdream (http://www.everdream.com/) suite does a lot more then that in...
We have tried them all in our location because we are very decentralized and need these tools. We used to use SMS Remote Tools, but found that Dameware was so much better. Especially the service install. VNC was ok, but installation was a hassle and not very secure. We are installing SMS 2003...
Sorry if this has been answered before but I couldn't find it. Anyway, does the SMS agent on a computer 'beacon' the server? Or can it be configured to do so? For example, ASAP eSmart and Everdream solutions will beacon into the home server on regular intervals with IP address, inventory...

This is a random happening problem that occurs to all of our users running Windows 2000. When they log in their dial-up connections are missing. We have to create them again and eventually they will disappear again. These users are under policy, but we have search high and low for a policy that...
Is there anyway to give users access to the "Downloaded Program Files" in C:\winnt? We use activex controls for our intranet and our users can't download the new versions. I have to sign on and load it for them and then log them back in.
I had the same problem but it wasn't related to the pagefile. We were migrating a new location to our network and when we joined our domain we found out that the last network admin for that site had changed all the default security settings, folder security, and global security. We still aren't...
We have a user that right clicks on photos, selects print and then MS Photo Editor spools exactly 15 printjobs. It only happens with photos and I checked all the settings that I knew about and they were all set to '1' copy. What is going on?
Thanks for the info! That explains where the awful file lengths came from. I tried to get the NeuraView but the process is longer then the wait at the DMV. I'm waiting for a password from them now. As for Acrobat, the way I was trying it was opening Acrobat first, then going to File, Open as...
When I checked the properties of these files the creation software listed was "NeuraScanner!". It is 200x200 dpi and yes, they really are that long. I was trying to use Adobe Acrobat 5.0, which created the blank files. Then I tried a program called Elan Converter and that worked...
I tried to use Photoshop to crop it down and I got a parsing error. Then I tried to find some third-party image splitters and didn't have much luck. The resolution is 200 x 200. And I mis-typed the dimension in my first post. The dimenisons range from 2000x4000 all the way up to 2000x450000. Thanks.
I'm trying to convert large TIFF files (1MB or more) to PDFs. However, any file over 1MB shows up blank, but in the correct image dimension. Anything under 1MB come out fine. The TIFFs are odd dimensions (ex: 2000 x 34000) because they are oil well logs. Does Acrobat have a file limit or...
I setup a simple network at a client's location and put them behind a router for their internet. My question is, what is the best way to remote to every PC? There are about six PCs there and they each have static IPs. They use NAT to access the internet. I have some experience with VNC and would...
We are in a firewalled environment and that is not an issue. The dialup they are using dials into Corporate so they never are really outside the network.
I'm not sure if they have the right to delete it. I will check on that one. But I doubt they would if they knew how? And yes, The icon is being created for all users with a shortcut to it on their desktop.
