I think the best way of doing this is as follows.
1) Perform a FULL system backup, preferably in single user mode.
2) Boot up using the CD-Rom with "boot cdrom -s" to a root prompt.
3) Repartition the disk that conatins /usr
4) Mount each affected partition as /mnt and cd to it.

I would be extremely careful about using this program to reset your Administrator password !!!
Do you REALLY need to do this? If the answer is "not really" then I would suggest that you don't.
Playing around with the "sam" password file can seriously damage your system. A...
The permissions for /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow should be
-r--r--r-- 1 root sys 7054 Nov 22 2001 /etc/passwd
and
-r-------- 1 root sys 3457 Jun 6 11:32 /etc/shadow
I had a similar problem to you a few weeks ago when /etc/passwd was changed.
I assume that you...
Was the disk that failed the primary boot disk? If so you will have to boot off the secondary device. Once the system is back up you should then be able to resync the devices and get back to where you should be.
If you really do want to remove XP and put 98 back then go here for an explanation on what to do

Just follow the methos I have given, noting the comment of bigjef314159 and you will be fine.
It's purely up to you whether you have one page file or one on each physical disk. I work with Unix systems alot and on there it is recommended that you split them across as many disks as...
Two other things.
In the Virtual Memory window, if you make any changes make sure you click on Set after each one.
When finished you will need to reboot to pick the changes up.

To change the page file to a new location click on the following
Start | Control Panel | Performance & Maintenance (if in Category View only) | System (either view)
This will bring up the System Properties window.
Click on Advanced and then the Settings button in...
If you can wait a few hours I will send you the exact details on how to do this.
I am currently at work, using a Windows 2000 system. I don't have access to an XP system from here. I could make a guess but this may screw up your system.
I have been burning mp3's (and wma's) to CD-R's and CD-RW's using Windows Media Player for a month now and have never had a single problem. The whole process is extremely quick and the resulting cd's will play on every cd player I have.
I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, but I thought...
Are all of these 4 partitions on the same physical disk?
If they are then it will make absolutely no difference to your performance if you move the page file.
If you have more than one physical disk installed in your system, then moving the page file to a non-system disk may have some...
At home I use a PC with XP Home on it to log on to our Windows 2000 network at work, via a 56K modem. This is very slow indeed. When I start up Outlook it can take up to an hour before I can open any emails.
I also have an old laptop running Windows 98. If I use this instead I can get to my...
