You obviously cannot connect the Power LED to the mobo.
The only thing that will not happen is the green Power On light will not show that your PC being on. Big deal.
An over sensitive mouse could pick up vibration as input signal and bring the PC out of Standby.
A programme that requires refreshing its data will case that as well but it would happen on a regular time intervals.
What about finding an engineering, electronic repair firm, college etc. with an EPROM burner.
Take one of your good EPROMs and the bad one and ask them to copy it for you.

test the iffy RAM to make sure.
Download memtest86 from: www.memtest86.com and test the RAM.
