I hate Hyper terminal. We have seen several problems with it. And this looks like one of them. Use another terminal emulator, like Tera term, it's old, but good: http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002416/teraterm.html
I have also experienced defect console ports on some BPS switches.

Is the base unit button set on the base unit?
A base unit LED going orange/amber, is typical if the base unit dies, and the next unit in the stack takes the baseunit place.
If you say that it is the base unit itself that changes from green to amber, I would check some hardware. Either the...
It says ** Loading configuration from nvram **, and therefore the configuration is not factory default.
Try "boot" instead of "reset" after the "save" command.

Use a Sniffer. Here you can get sniffer software for you PC: http://ethereal.com/
If the packets are flooded on the LAN, you can connect the sniffer on any port in the network. If not, you can do a port mirroring on the switch.
Then you should see the traffic you wants to stop. Then you can...
In a lab, with only two devices, you can push data from one client to a receiver with 100% utilization. But then the receiver can't send out any packets.
But as the people here already has said:
- The 40% rule only happens with half duplex
- Hub's are always half duplex
- With full duplex...
There are three types of stacking for BayStack 460, 470 and BPS 2000:
• Pure stacks:
• BS470-48T only
• BS470-24T only
• BS460-24T only
• BPS 2000 only
Allied stacks (do not include BayStack 450 units):
• BS470-48T and BS 470-24T and BS 460 and BPS 2000
• BS470-48T and BS 470-24T and BS 460

Do you have the same soft- and firmware on the new switch as for the rest of the stack?
When saying that the bottom unit is the base unit, I guess it is unit #1. And I guess the unit over is #2. Do you use Device Manager?
If so, I would recommend you to do the opposite. Because Device Manager...
Yes, it was before, and therefore could be correct if the device is an older model. I have asked Alteon, and they say that after Nortel came in charge, there came new serial numbers.
Use the MAC address and see if that is good enough.

Are you running SMLT? Or any other MLT. There is a IGMP bug causing unstable switch management. This will be fixed in the BoSS code 3.0.6. To make a workaround on this, either disable IGMP on the management VLAN on the 470, or enable it in the core on the PP8600's.

Hello!
It's a higher possibility that a line fails, instead of a router. When using two equal lines, I would use ECMP (Equal Cost Multi Path). Then you can load balance between the lines, and you have automatic failover. I have used this several times, and it works great.

Hello!
You need the binary image: 100304_bin.180e to do this job:
1. Using the serial cable, connect the computer to the switch Console port.
2. Make sure that the new binary firmware file is available on the computer.
3. Start your terminal emulation software and set the communication...

Hello!
WebOS 9.0 is the latest release that support the iSD-SSL 100.
I started working with the Alteon product 3 years ago. I have never used the version 1 code. I started with version 2.0.
Then I had to configure the SSL as a unit it self. I did not configure any SSL on the Web Switch then...

The WellFleet/Bay/Nortel routers was earlier set to boot from the network by default. I'm not quit sure how it is now. But if it can't find a image on the local flash, it will try to boot from the network.
You can stop the router with a "break" command, and then you enters a...
When you use Device Manager, the Nortel Networks tool for configuring switches, you can mark all ports and choose "edit". Then you can see the "last change" value for all ports. That helps!
