Ok found out something else, if I remove all the RAM from the system then the motherboard beeps at me to tell me there is no memory installed, yet if I try the same RAM (or new RAM) I don't get any beeps and it stays at the HP logo. This is bugging me, I don't want to shell out on a new board...

Ok pulled battery and still no life. What's weird is that I get the HP screen come up, but then nothing happens. If it the motherboard was dead then does it not make sense that I would get nothing but a blank screen?

Thanks for the replies, I had already tried all suggestions above. The only thing I had not tried was the card in another computer, but I had tried another card in the same computer. In the end I gave up and reloaded XP, bit of a long winded way to install a card but the PC runs better now.

Hi Frank, the IDE drive is blank and formatted. To eliminate it being a problem with the IDE HDD I moved it to another PC and formatted. Thanks for the input though, I will give the "Boot Other Device" option now and report back.

Wolluf, yes the drive is being recognised in the bios. So far I have tried: Primary IDE as both Master/Single, Slave and Cable Select Secondary IDE as Master/Single drive It gives me the same blue screen whether trying normal or safe mode. I have also tried using a different IDE cable.
