What we eventually dicovered was that the system had flagged all the users home directories as having owner and group root which meant that log and initialisation couldn't be written to the directory and the CDE would not start.<br><br>Strangely smitty was also flagging new users home...
Unfortunately that didn't work. Only the root user seems to be able to start the DT messaging service so I must assume that some file or directory permissions were not set correctly during installation. Or else the user needs to belong to a group which can start the system.
