Hubs used to be OK, but since the 10/100 switch are now very cheap, I wouldn't run hubs due to the fact they cause increased b-casts on a network. A hub has only one mac address and on switch each port has it's on mac address, a hub each port has to contend for the same mac address and causes...
Have you tried sniffing the network to see what type of traffic is on it? Also how are they configured? do you have a map, any speical vlans? Tagging? etc, without a map or any sniffs of the network traffic it's hard to say what is causing the problem. We have run 1100,3300,3900

How to reset a 3COM 3900 back to default setting without the password? Does anyone know the steps it takes to reset the switch while booting up?
