Ran a CHKDSK and received several of the following errors:
Read failure with status 0xc000003f at offset 0x23f405000 for 0x4000 bytes.
The code 0xc000003f is the consistent error across the board. Here is a copy of the Event Viewer entry.

VPC 2007 version 6.0.156.0
After putting a CD or DVD in one of my physical drives (D is DVD R/RW and E is DVD ROM) and selecting "Use Physical Drive D:" (or E:), VPC acts like it captures the physical drive (the option to "Release Physical Drive D:" (or E:) becomes active). But when looking at...
We have an issue with Communicator not installing properly. Everytime the
user tries to launch Communicator, he gets - “Cannot start Communicator until
setup is complete. Restart your computer to complete setup, and then start
Communicator”
No number of reboots, or uninstall/reinstalls...
I do not have the Sony in my possession, so I don't know for sure that we can't use Disk Manager to get rid of it. I've just read on the internet where other Sony users couldn't remove that partition in that manner.
Thanks for the suggestions. I was hoping there would be someone that actually...
We need to remove the Recovery Partiton (EISA Partition) from a Sony VAIO SZ Series laptop without running a System Recovery as instructed by Sony Tech Support. I asked if there is anyway to remove this partition without damaging, or removing, the C: partition. Sony stated NO.
We must remove...
Thanks again. Earlier today we discussed removing the update using Add/Remove Programs, then boot into safe mode and try installing manually. When the user gets a moment, we will give that a whirl.
That didn't do it. I also tried the renaming of the %windir%\softwaredistribution and WindowsUPdate.log procedure. Still queues up. I even tried the following: msiexec.exe /fa capicom2.msi. Two things I've noticed. One, the following registry entry is missing...
I located a second copy of the CAPICOM.DLL file on this computer. It looks like it was installed by the HP OfficeJet 6210 All-in-One software. This version of CAPICOM.DLL is 2.0.0.2, while the other version on this computer is 2.1.0.2 (which is the actual updated version). I'm thinking this...
I've read several posts on the internet for this issue and have yet to see a reason/solution for it. I have a workstation that WSUS continuously queues KB931906. Add/Remove
Programs list this update as being installed. Also, the WindowsUpdate.log
file indicates a successful install, followed...
I may be splitting hairs, here.
I am using the procedure in KB914387 to change the affected time zones. All looks good at this point.
I have a question about KB931836, though. This article has all the DST time zone settings. This article has two time zones that actually give a specific day of...
I just took a peek at KB914387. It looks like they corrected the following:
Central Brazilian Standard Time (GMT -04:00) Manaus
I haven't tested it yet, but the reg entries for this time zone are different, now.
It looks like the error I reported with the Namibia Standard Time entry is a typo...
I have created the REG file and VBS script as described in KB914387. These seem to work fine in updating a W2K box. However, when I run TZEDIT to verify each zone according to KB928388, the following zones didn't get updated with DST start/end times correctly.
Central Brazilian Standard Time...
Thanks for the links. I have seen those. It sounds like a third party app is involved and we are trying to avoid third party apps; however, it may become necessary. Also, I get the impression that this "installs" the F&P service. We just need to enable it. I could be wrong with that assumption...
Thank you for the replies. We have a mixed environment. Windows XP SP1 and SP2 along with Windows 2000 SP4.
Concerning the reply from "crobin1", I didn't see anywhere in the GPO editor to enable File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks. This may be because I was using Windows Server 2003...
We will be deploying SMS clients shortly. There are a number of workstations in our organization that will NOT have File and Printer Sharing enabled for their network connections. I have been unable to locate a way to enable this on all network connections either via GPO or registry hack. Any...
Just upgraded from Office XP to Office 2003. For some reason, I am unable to change the macro security level in Word from Medium to High. Everytime I change it, it always reverts back to Medium. No error messages are displayed. Any ideas on this. I'm logged in as admininstrator. Windows XPsp2.
