Our school tech guy upgraded our servers and also made changes to indvidual PC settings. Since then, when I try to access certain sites, I get the desired URL in the address box and our homepage on the screen.
This keeps happening with a page I want the students to access to do on-line tests...
It was the new IP! Thanks so much. One phone call and the main databases were up and running in a half hour! Two more phone calls and an e-mail and the rest will be fixed tomorrow. - Nancy
These are subscription databases such as the Encyclopedia Britannica, InfoTrac Magazine index, or Wilson Biographies index.
Before the firewall, we sent the service provider our IP address, which they then logged into their system. Any student accessing one of these databases from school...
Thanks John, but I've already tried that. Our tech guy is stubborn and doesn't believe that it will work. I even sent him the company contact the local high school used.
I need to understand the process more myself so I can get others involved in the process (go around him?!!?). I don't know...
The tech guy at my school just (finally) installed a firewall. Now the students can no longer access the statewide databases (infotrac, wilson, gale, britannica)from school.
The state system was always set up so that the kids had direct IP access from campus, but had to logon remotely at home...
I contacted my tech guy at school. I think the heat has made him grumpy, because his answer to your query was:
"I use asp scripts to send forms to email addresses"
I emailed him back for server software details. He's upgrading our system over the long 4th weekend.
Thanks for your...
As part of my libray skills instruction, I have a form the kids need to fill out and print. I would like to give them the option of sending the completed form to their individual email accounts.
Is there such a script, etc.?
Hope theres's someone out there who knows. I've been searching...
I did it! I did it!
I finally asked a 10th grade "computer kid" if he had any ideas.
We did a File Find for "hosts"
Open hosts with NotePad
Delete IP Address & www.hotmail.com text line
Save
PROBLEM GONE!
Thanks guys,
1. the kids are totally locked out of the server (I checked with our tech man). It's only happening on 2 machines.
2.It is not the default start page. Just happens when you type in www.hotmail.com or go to a link somewhere else to access Hotmail.
3. I tried all the suggestions...
The kids at my school have found a way to make an "inappropriate" page load when you try to access ie. "Hotmail".
I've cleared the history, cleared the temp. files.
How do I fix this and how do they do this?????
Thanks
