To fix this problem and slow browsing there are two entries in the registry that cause this.
I had a client the other day with the same problem and as soon as I removed the two entries all worked as it should.

Thanks for the info.
Setting the number of folder to 5000 fixed the problem on my PC. Looks like a clean install on the Video problem.
Obviously my system needs a clean up. all I need now is for someone to advise me on how to get more hours in a day to do it.
Hope you are having a nice...
linnley,
My thoughts were exactly that. I was just hoping there may be a resolution to save me the hassle.
I have put it on the agenda to do a clean install next week if no one comes up with a solution.
XP is a good system but every day I come across little things it does differently.
A...
BitFight,
Thanks for your reply,
I have tried everything including different brands of video cards. I have installed software supplied with the cards and also tried updated software from the makers sites.
Once the PC has finished booting the resolution can be set to any resolution but will not...
I have just upgraded Windows ME to XP Pro.
When the PC starts up it starts in the lowest resolution and no matter what I do it will not stay in a higher resolution.
I have changed video cards etc but to no avail.
I can change to any resolution after starting but when I restart it is back to the...
Glen,
Thanks for your quick reply.
I can ping an outside IP address but cannot ping or resolve a web address.
However I have since found where the problem is and a possible fix.
Here is the info I received today.
"There are some known problems associated with certain types of software...
I have a Windows 98 PC and the DNS request are being blocked somehow. I had the same problem with XP pro a couple of weeks ago. I fixed the problem by reinstalling the OS.
I have re-established the TCP/IP as it was corrupted by a hacker and can now ping outside IPs but cannot resolve any domain...
devilman,
I would like more info on setting up a network boot disk. That is an area I have little knowledge. In particular I have a need to image and restore Toshiba notebooks to/from a server. The server is just a dedicated Win2k Pro workstation with a number of HDDs.
Kind regards
Alan
jdeane,
Would you please tell me how to get the sys files from the CD. I checked my system and none of the four files are there.
Thanks for the very helpful info.

Alan
I changed the printer driver but that did not change the situation. The html messages still miss the first letter of each line in the body of the message. The printer is directly connected to the PC. Also if I print to a network printer it does the same thing, but if I send the email to another...
I would also suggest you take Norton antivirus off and install a trial version of NOD32 from http://www.nod32.com.au. You will be surprised at the difference adn you may well find your system is still infected by other viruses not picked up by Norton. Most systems I have repaired (software wise)...
I have the same problem with one client using Outlook or Outlook Express. However the problem is only with HTML emails not with Plain Text emails. This only started a couple of weeks ago.
I would also like to find a solution.
I also cringe every time I see Webshots. Every PC I have seen it on has had problems - locking up, slow and generally not nice.
Some users have problems but don't realise it.
I for one will not allow my clients to use it.
Regards
Alan White
