1. If the online HiJack This! analyzer finds some unknown applications, try checking the startup list at Sysinfo. You can also use it to check the stuff listed by msconfig.

2. Sounds like Internet Explorer 6 won't completely uninstall from Windows XP...
Check out the second block of the Intelligent Updater options at Symantec. It lets you download an update as separate files on floppy disks.

Or download the entire update as a single file and try running it in Windows.
1. Is it really the Google toolbar or is it Cool Web Search? I use the Google toolbar and I've seen a Cool Web Search toolbar; they look pretty similar to one another.
2. Does the account you're using have full admin rights? A Microsoft application that seems to uninstall but doesn't...
JMPEL34,
1. Find out model numbers and names or as much as you can about the HP Pavilion's video adapter, sound card, network adapter, the monitor, and any other hardware you might want to use. The video adapter and monitor are especially important if you want to run any Linux/Unix OS with a...
If the laptop already has an OS, make sure to back up your important files first.
Also, if you have partitioning software, try to partition the laptop's hard drive, leave the already installed OS alone, and install Solaris in its own partition.
Definitely check out the site Sunny's...
A few thoughts from a person with a Bachelor of Arts in nothing (liberal arts college didn't grant B.A. in subject)
1. Someone who majored in Computer Science and works as a "Wildlife Biology Technician" must be able to learn fast. On the surface computer science and wildlife biology don't...
On the very first day of my current job, our group went bowling. Make sure to ask for bumpers for the gutters. The bumpers roll the ball back onto the lane for bowlers who can't get the ball down the lane and hit the gutters along the edges.

KeefB,
You may also need to fix the folder permissions. Fixing the folder permissions made the error go away at first. The error kept recurring after the folder permission fix, so then we applied the patch.
Our Legato tech support vendor gave us a bug ID of LGTpa60860. The permanent fix...
DoubleD,
No, it's not just Wisconsin employers who don't pay overtime. The company I work for here in Alabama doesn't pay anything for on-call---no extra money, no comp time, etc.

If finding RPC services would help you find related applications, have you tried rpcinfo? It shows services and their ports. One application that adds rpcinfo to a server is Legato Networker (for backups).
Here's a SysAdmin magazine article on RPC calls that mentions rpcinfo and lsof...
My publicly funded high school in Indiana (central U.S.) required all students to pass a public speaking course to graduate. It was a pretty hard course for some students to pass. A lot of colleges and universities in the U.S. require public speaking courses too.
I'm not sure that...
Before you enroll in a tech school like DeVry, make sure to investigate the school's student loan default rates and its job placement rates. If students can't pay back their loans, they're probably not getting good IT jobs.
Check the University of Illinois and the University of Wisconsin...
Try adding the client's hostname and IP address to a HOSTS or /etc/hosts file. I think it might even work if you add a host name and a fake IP address (just don't use an IP address that's valid for another hostname).
We use an /etc/hosts file on our Legato server running Solaris 8.
Take training whenever it's offered. Get trained up, certified, and skilled. Then try to find a new employer who will pay your old employer for your training.
The company I work for pays to train some people, but won't pay to train others. The ones who get trained have no contractual...
