In VB there are controls for Directory and file list boxes
Is there anything in Access 2000 that is similar or am I forced to create my own or use the commdlg?

Your connection string is wrong you need to specify server:=****
you can also do another syntax where you specify a driver as well - search on vb developers rather than access and look around ado connection objects or odbcconstr
I think your problem is you need a central mdw file on the server - This tells acces who has rights - each user would then need a shortcut that starts access and points to the Mdw file for security
If your using 2000 use the Security wizard to play with these files.
