Hi Scott
I am absolutely useless at networks.
But I am now resolved to porting over to MS Access, assuming this is capable of networking by up to half a dozen people.
It is a much more modern program. It will start in mint condition. Automatic numbering of primary key seems quite important to...
Hi Scott,
Yes that was the name, Hamachi.
I was never very keen on the idea of working from home.
Foxpro has to use NTVDM to work on windows 8.1 and although it works fine on the four machines networked at work, it won't work on my partner's setup using Windows 10, 64bit. So I am reluctant to...
This setup is error prone and your IT guy might want to look for a different solution for the home workers.
I have solved the problem - there are only three people writing to foxpro, including me..so emails only at home.

Dave
Hi Mike,
Yes, I have started entering new data into Foxpro, keeping a wary eye on what is happening - so far so good.
At the back of my mind I am wishing foxpro had something like the autonumber primary key of Access, which guarantees unique keys.
Anyway thanks for your help.
Regards
Dave
I had a further look at this problem yesterday evening.
I found at least 150 records with a problem memo field, just looking at it showed it was part or all of a memo field but was in the wrong place. I just replaced them with "". It is a loss of data that I can handle as I do have paper...
Hi Mike,
<It could be that it is that same problem that is causing the corruption of the memo fields.>
Possibly but I really doubt it.
In our place of work we have 6 PCs. One is set up as a file server, no keyboard, no mouse. This one holds all the Foxpro files. The whole system has worked fine...
<waiting for input was five seconds, so not a big cost to reindex.>
Sorry, there was another user on line so that was not reindexed. I started again, this time exclusively and the timing was fifteen seconds, so still not bad.
Regards
Dave
Hi Mike, and thanks for your input.
The reason for reindexing is lost in the mists of time, but I seem to remember having problems with indexes which cleared up when I started doing this. I just checked, and from clicking on the Foxpro icon to having my application waiting for input was five...
Hi Scott, thanks for your help.
Every time I start this application I check for exclusive use and if I have it I reindex every table. In the case of this table "saleslsd" I run the following code.
use saleslsd.dbf exclusive
delete tag all
index on DTOS(date)+inv_no tag date
index on...
Hi - old newcomer alert.
I built a FoxPro programme more than twenty years ago and it is, today, still very important to my business. Last week I had corruption of about 10 records in the memo field of my invoice table (out of approx. 16000). As I scroll through the table, the memo field shows...
