I think I stumbled on a work around. I changed the windows default printer to bluebeam pdf writer, instead of the offline printer that was my default and no more crash. Looks like an old issue.
I consistently can make project 2010 crash if I take my project, group it by complete/incomplete, then select a data range to filter by, then go to print. There are some times it works but most times it crashes. Here is the crash info in case someone here can help or report this:

Thanks Victor but this isnt the problem. I think the settings for my group styles got corrupted somehow. Once I copied them over from the global template the problem was resolved.
Not sure what caused this. No matter what I did it would not resolve. I finally went into the organizer and deleted those groups from my project. Then when I used them again they copied from the global template and everything is good again. I still get a MS project crash every few times when...
WHat do you mean change the background of the group? Seems to not happen if I group by critical. If I group by resource or status it happens. I cant for the life of me find where to fix this.
Nevermind. I worked this out. First off I found the exact filter I was looking for, but also found that if I edit into the premade filters, i can see the syntax they used and use that to make my own filters.
Nice. Would like to know a good resource that discusses these filters in detail.
I am looking to filter my view by more than one criteria. It seems that you can do most things but I would like to filter by a resource, plus a date range. I dont see anyway to add the built in date range filter into my own customer filter.
For some reason if I group some tasks by status and then go to print them the colors of the summary tasks turn black rather than the baby blue. Can someone help? this is an issue for my reporting.
Here is a link below showing what it looks like in project, then in print preview.

Sorry I was going off of bad memory. The actual report is under Reports/ Current/ Tasks starting soon. All of those non "visual reports" seem to have very limited customizing available. Let me know if I am missing the boat here.
Ok thanks. Thats great news. Im sure they will put it in the fix queue somewhere and it will get fixed eventually. Do you get put on a watchlist for the bug? In other words if they resolve do you get notified? if so maybe you can post here if you hear more. THanks.
Is there any way to customize the reports that are generated by Project? Specifically I am looking to print the "Current activities report", but be able to select which columns are used. I don't see any interface on managing that info.
Also any good web resources on doing custom reports with...
FYI, I tested this on MS Project 2003 and it behaves correctly. Looks like on both project 2007 and 2010 this error occurs. Any update on whether this has been reported? Anyone here with MS Enterprise support clout get MS to do a hotfix?
Thank you Julie. I knew you would come to the rescue :-) I have read many of your helpful posts!
I dont think the MVPs over there have done anything because they marked the post as answered and the answer was basically too bad... To me its a pretty major issue. Thanks again for your help.
I changed the resource calendar to work Saturdays by default and then put an exception for the saturdays I dont want him to work and the task correctly scheduled without error.
There is definitely a bug with MS project 2010 where it is not taking exceptions into account when comparing working...
I am using Project 2010 Standard. The task duration is 1 Day and my day is set as 8 hours in options.
As far as naming exceptions, you can do it in project 2007 as well. This is the same place you would put "Labor Day", "Christmas", etc. See the link below for a picture showing the...
The if you had other tasks working through that saturday they would all have saturday as a working day if you just changed the standard calendar. The issue here is when you use a task calendar that is different than the resources base calendar.
To simulate the issue do this:
1. Create another...
