    PC shuts off randomly

Aleady planning on shutting down sys restore when I'm sure all nasties are gone & then restarting it with a new restore point. Power settings are not the problem. She use to sign on to Facebook & a site called jigzone (put jigsaw puzzles together). She would never log out & shut the browser...

    PC shuts off randomly

New factor added into the problem. Apparently, the shutdown isn't so random. Wife admitted PC only seemed to shut down shortly after signing on to the Internet. I've cleaned all fans including heatsink & have uninstalled MBAM. I plan on rebooting in safe mode with networking & reinstalling...

    PC shuts off randomly

MBAM was installed previously. When it shuts down, there are no screens, notices or fans. It's like power went off but monitor was still active (as far as power lite anyway). PC won't boot

Thanks Roger! I'll pull the mobo out as it's in the case. It may take a while to get back to you as it means removing everything else. Will let all know how that works. Thanks again, Fred

    PC shuts off randomly

Besides my earlier problem PC, now my wife's PC shuts down without notice. I ran CCleaner & Spybot, (all current editions) & deleted all malware & trojans found. I'm not sure if this is relevant, but MBAM would not update; all attempts to do so failed. Installed Core Temp to monitor CPU thinking...

Just a wild thought, but sometimes those are the best. The tower is about 7 years old running XP Pro. Could the power failure have damaged the CMOS battery. [ponder] I pulled it out of the old mobo. Any thoughts? Fred

    PC won't boot

Thanks for your input. Alas, the PC still will not boot. B-( I tried clearing the CMOS by switching positions & removing it; I pulled the CMOS battery & left it out overnight before replacing it, finally tried disconnecting all but the master drive. Press the on button (holding it for 2 minutes)...

    PC won't boot

About 10 days ago, we experienced a short power loss. Wife had to reboot a few times to get her PC up & running. When I checked mine, it was off & shouldn't have been as it's configured to reboot after power loss. A visual check showed 1 capaciter bulging & on the verge of leakin. I opted to...
