The /etc/hosts file is just used for local name-to-ip resolution, in other words when you type something like #telnet hermes.arapahoe.edu , the hosts file is checked for an entry for hermes.arapahoe.edu and if found uses the IP listed to make the connection. without the hermes.arapahoe.edu...
I have edited the /etc/TIMEZONE file and I am looking for a way to find and re-run the process that reads this file at boot time. Any suggestions or Ideas out there? I would like to avoid bringing a production machine down just for this simple change.
