Win client can't open shares on Linux

The idea was to login to the server with the credentials of the appropriate user. BTW - If you change the permissions of ALL the directories under home, there's at least a 50/50 chance that no one will be able to access their home. Ed

    DNS vs. SMTPROUTES?

    > is qmail doing a DNS lookup of your public IP address? Again, that was part of MY question. > There are two ways around this that I can think of: 1 - put this in your host file, 2 - host your own authoritative DNS, such as BIND and have it resolve your IP. If you're referring to...

    DNS vs. SMTPROUTES?

Before I say anything else, I want to say thank you for sticking with me on this. I appreciate your help. You're right. This has gotten pretty convoluted. I've attempted to untangle things a bit & made a few discoveries in the process. I'll try to relate what I've done & what I've discovered...

    DNS vs. SMTPROUTES?

No. That didn't work either. The config script that does the DNS lookup apparently gets my IP# & does a reverse lookup so it returns MY ISP's name for the router. This is killing me. :( Ed

    DNS vs. SMTPROUTES?

Thanks for the info. I had just about come to some of the same conclusions. I spent quite a while playing with DNS to get myself up to speed again. Sort of. What I think may be happening (& I'd have mentioned it sooner if I had thought of it sooner) is something like this: I have a public IP...

    DNS vs. SMTPROUTES?

Well 1st, let me apologize for not answering your questions directly & fully. I've had too much on my plate lately to be able to concentrate properly on anything. Now..... >When you tried to connect to yahoo via telnet, where did >it fail and what error message did you get? It never...

    DNS vs. SMTPROUTES?

In a previous post I worked through getting mail to leave my local network. The solution was to enter e relayhost in smtproutes. That is really not what I want to have to do. I would much prefer a DNS lookup to determine the routing. So my question is: why isn't a DNS lookup being done? Is there...

    Sorry,_I_wasn't_able_to_establish_an_SMTP_connection._(#4.4.1)

Ok. I got an email to go outbound. Finally!!!! I had to enter a relay server in smtproutes. I really didn't want to do that. I would much prefer that outbound mail be routed via DNS lookup. That will be the subject of my next question, which I will post as: DNS vs. SMTPROUTES? Ed

    Qmail Installation Problem

Could you be a little more specific? Part 5 of what book or howto? Ed

    Sorry,_I_wasn't_able_to_establish_an_SMTP_connection._(#4.4.1)

Well I was able to send myself an email via telnet per your instructions. I can't get connected to a Yahoo mail server. So I'm guessing port 25 isn't blocked. At least for now. My ISP is in the process of switching all accounts to IMAP on a gmail server. The server I just telneted to won't be...

Who is supposed to own the processes?

THIS MAY BE RELATED TO MY LAST QUESTION: Sorry,_I_wasn't_able_to_establish_an_SMTP_connection._(#4.4.1) ************************************************************** ************************************************************** I've been having some problems getting qmail to run properly...

    Sorry,_I_wasn't_able_to_establish_an_SMTP_connection._(#4.4.1)

Well I'm not on Spamcop's blacklist. The ip address of the server is private but the ip of the router is public. I had a friend telnet into my server on ports 25 & 80. I was able to connect to a couple of different smtp mail servers on port 25 so I don't think port blocking is the problem. I...

    Sorry,_I_wasn't_able_to_establish_an_SMTP_connection._(#4.4.1)

I followed Life With qmail for installation on a Compaq laptop running Ubuntu 10.04.01 64 bit. Everything went fine until testing. All of the local send & receive tests succeeded. I can receive mail from from a remote host (my yahoo account). Testing outbound mail failed. I cant get any mail...

Win client can't open shares on Linux

I can browse the shares on Win XP but when I try to open them I get access violation errors. For the /home share (2 users) I get "Access denied". For the share /home/ed/Public I get "Network path not found". Everything works fine when browsing & mounting Win shares on the Linux box. The Linux...
