USB device works for administrators but not ''standard'' accounts

I tried your suggestion, Linney, and promoted my kids' account to an administrator. It didn't work. I just bumped into a similar symptom - which I'm 99% sure is the exact same problem. When my son plugged his digital camera into a USB, a warning popped-up saying the driver didn't install...

USB device works for administrators but not ''standard'' accounts

Understood. I'm not concerned about the interim level of their permissions. I'm concerned about afer I've demoted them back to standard users - I don't want them ending up with more access than before I promoted them. I've manually granted and denied them NTFS permissions on a number of...

USB device works for administrators but not ''standard'' accounts

That's a good idea, Linney! One concern: does doing that affect their NTFS permissions/ownership of files/folders once I've switched their accounts back to demoted users? I have a bunch of folders on which they have varying levels of permissions set - and I don't want to mess all that up...

USB device works for administrators but not ''standard'' accounts

I've got a USB headphone/microphone jack adapter thingy - that could be described in 1,000 words - or just please take a peek at this image: http://cdn1.webvoo.com/cdn/ebay/peelplus/item/300x300/sku/b/a/c1/pusbscxxad01_pp.jpg?pl=9 When I plug it in on my (administrator) account, it consistently...

    Accessing local files when RDPing

When RDPing into Server 2003, I could always get to the files on my local PC by using "\\tsclient\". We've now upgraded to Windows Server 2008 Datacenter R2 and that no longer works. How can I do that now? Thanks! Eliezer

2 TB SATA - which is better?

KJV, I'm looking for a large drive because I'd like "breathing room" on my PC - and because this is my last slot for a harddrive - so it's capacity is gonna have to last the life of this PC. Thank you very much for your comments and advice! Eliezer

2 TB SATA - which is better?

Ben, thanks for the links, but they unfortunately don't help me: StorageReview doesn't have either drive - and TomsHardware only has the WD. Also, those are so technically detailed - I wouldn't know which benchmark to use - even if I could compare the two drives! I'm just looking for an...

2 TB SATA - which is better?

I'm comparing two internal 2TB HDDs for my home PC (Win7 Home Premium 64-bit) use: HITACHI Deskstar HDS722020ALA330 (0F10311) Western Digital Caviar Black WD2001FASS I cannot find any technical comparisons between the two. I am not doing any kind of fancy RAID setup; it just needs to...
