I am currently using PowerDeisgner 9.5, however, I have some report template files (*.rtp) that I want use but I can't seem to get PowerDesigner to recognize them. How can I "import" them so that they show up on the list of report templates?
I think my problem has to do with the ODBC driver that I am using. I had been using the ODBC driver that comes with the IBM DB/2 client. I am currently in the process of trying to get the MERANT 3.70 ODBC driver to work. And, no, as usual the IBM catalog structure is different than the Sybase...
When reverse-engineering from a DB/2 OS/390 v6 database using PowerDesigner 9.0 the database catalog tables are not recognized as such. Where would I either get a correct resource file or how would I update the current resource file to correct this problem. JWFox
The problem with this process is knowing what the metamodel is in Visio 2000. What I tried to do was use the Visio object model to iterate through all the objects in a database diagram and determine where Visio stored all of its information. The good news was that I was able to find almost...
Questions for clarification:
(1) In the three relationships "from E1 to E2", is E1 the "parent" or is E2 the parent? Secondly, are these dependent or non-dependent relationships?
(2) What do you mean that E3 "inherits" from E1? Is this a dependent relationship...
I am running PowerDesigner 8.0.1.293 and trying to generate "legacy" information from multiple Physical Data Models into a common Conceptual Data Model. However, every time I generate from PDM "A" I lose all of the Entities that I generated from PDM "B" (and...
I am frequently asked to export information out of PowerDesigner in a format that can be imported into another tool, whether that tool is MS Excel, MS Access, etc. Having the DTD for the XML-format PowerDesigner file would be extremely helpful in building some kind of tool to provide that...
First of all, if you are a DBA, why do you want to use the Conceptual Data Model (*.cdm) instead of the Physical Data Model. If all you are interested in is documenting relationships with the "crows feet" notation, you can do that in the Physical Data Model by adjusting the...
In the newer versions of PowerDesigner (7.5+?) there is an option to save data models in an XML format. Where would I find a DTD for this type of XML document?
I have users that want to extract the information from PowerDesigner data models (either cdm or pdm) into some other more accessible tool such as MS Access or MS Excel. For example, extract each entity name, attribute name, datatype, length, precision and description. How can it be done?
I am currently running version 7.5, but I suspect that the process is the same or similar. To either forward- or reverse-engineer to a MS Access database, you must run the code through a MS Access database application that the PowerDesigner team created. Look in the documentation for MS Access...
I currently have a Metaworks v7.5 repository running on a Sybase database and would like to upgrade to v8.0 of the Metaworks software. Can I use my current repository with the v8.0 software?
