Thank you both for your advice. I meant to come back here and check after the first day, but got busy with other stuff. After having the telco out a second time and hiring a repair guy who knows these systems, they are both convinced that the problem is the other guy's problem. Vendor meet is...
Our office has an old Merlin Legend system with two analog (wink start?) lines for incoming DID calls. The system has been running the same for nearly two decades and no changes have been made.
Recently, when attempting to call a DID number from the outside, callers receive a message "Your call...
I thought I'd update this, because it should be a lesson to all of us when it comes to troubleshooting. When problems like mine arise, it's natural to look at the equipment (especially old equipment) and assume that it's malfunctioning.
It turns out that we had several employees on a conference...
Now with SYQUEST's input, I just realized I don't really understand the architecture of the Legend system. The whole concept of a touch tone receiver seems silly this day in age, but I'm sure it made sense 25 years ago when electronics were more expensive.
Thanks for the input, I'll leave this...
Merlinman,
Your thinking seems to be leading me in the right direction. I'll have to get someone with test equipment over to the site (I'm really a computer guy, not a phone guy), but as it got later (and the phones got quieter), the system seemed to work. So I then tried to call DID's with two...
I think our old Merlin Legend system may be dying, but I thought I'd try to get some opinions here.
The trunk on our system is just a bunch of analog lines with DID's. All's been fine for the last decade. :) Today, when someone calls a DID number from the outside, they get a reorder tone. I had...
I have an IP Office 406 and an old Lucent (AT&T) 8110M telephone from our old Merlin Ledgend system. Which system is used to trigger the message waiting light? My choices are:
101V
51V Stepped
81V
Line Reversal A
Line Reversal B
On
...or none of the above? I'd experiment, but if V means...
After years of ingoring a mess I inherited, I've turned my attention to prepping our network for a migration from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2010. A jump that big is involved enough, but I also have to deal with some remains from the original 5.5 installations. The organization is still in mixed...
I need a little help isolating a problem and I'm wondering if I have a version mismatch issue.
Our company has had a 406 for 3 years and is sitting at version 3.0(59). It has 2 valid licenses "Voicemail Pro (4 Ports)" and "Additional Voicemail Pro (ports)" x 8. VM Pro, Key Server and USB dongle...
janni78,
I haven't had the need to do a trace because the main unit has always sent something I recognized as a DID. If I withhold the caller ID, our billing number is sent by the provider, which hasn't happened in any of my tests.
Westi,
I'll try your suggestion and let you know what happens. You don't need to bug your customer (unless you're satisfying your own curiosity). I'm usually at the office an hour past everyone else and the remote site is a couple of weeks from being occupied.
Westi,
Thanks for the response. That's pretty clever and would be much neater than user short codes. Big problem though. We have 2 DID blocks (it's always something, isn't it?). The other thing I noticed when I originally created a special short code on the main unit for outbound calls...
amriddle01,
Thanks for the response. I was leaving that option as a last resort knowing how messy that could get, but that's what I'll end up doing if there isn't a cleaner way.
To simplify the question, how can I trigger the main 406 to match the extension to the incoming call route number when the extension is on another 406 connected via IP line?
The "remote" 406 is a new addition to our system and the problem was unexpected because the outgoing caller ID has always...
I have a "remote" 406 with an IP line connected to our "main" 406 which in turn is connected to a PRI. Voice networking is enabled on the IP line. For incoming call routes on the "main" 406, I've typed (can't select) the extensions on the "remote" 406, and all seems well (incoming caller ID...
