    Creating a single path from text

    Hi, please does anyone know how to convert some text not into outlines, that can be stroked and filled, but rather just into the fill element. i.e the average or midpoints of the outlines. This is to export to a 3d package, and i need the text as a single spline. Hope that makes sense. Thanks
