Okay! Case closed, think I've answered my own question about drive letters!...
Here's how I got it working:
1. Used Partition Magic's PQBoot to set the copied XP as bootable (don't know if this is necessary?)
2. Detach all drives apart from the one with the copied XP. (this seems to avoid...
lol!
It's strange - 'all I really wanna do' is clone this XP onto a new drive - I can safely remove the old copy once it's done.
I've been able to do this very succesfully in the past using Ghost to copy a WHOLE disk. The problems seem to start when you copy *partitions*, not the entire...
Tried the "gdisk /mbr 1" after removing the old drive and didn't get very far.
Computer comes too a halt at the DOS page that shows installed devices (after the drive listing)
I've found that I CAN log on to this copied XP in Recovery Console from the XP CD - does this mean there's some...
Just found this link, looks useful?

What a palarva! Ok... well, I think my problem with booting the copied OS is probably this drive letter thing. Unfortunately, the only solution suggested by MS is to edit the registry through a network, which I don't have.
Is it possible to edit the registry through the recovery console...
Okay please forgive me but I need a bit of an idiots guide to this cos I've messed it up and had to do Windows repairs on the copied OS partition a few times.
All I know so far is:
1. Copy all OS and program partitions to new drive.
When I've tried to boot from the new drive in the past it...
Well... Partition Magic + Ghost so far, but they wouldn't touch the dodgy partition, all I could do in the end was delete it after I got what data I could off it.
Any1 got any tips on copying the OS?
Okay, managed to recover what I could from the messed up partition, (thanks to everyone, including thos at the 'recovery' forum who helped). However, answers have been thin on the ground there to my latest questions and I thought you might have some ideas. Here's the latest news :)-...
How can I change, specifically, the text size of Explorer windows without changing the other text sizes? ie. without changed to 'Large Fonts'
I have been going through all the settings in 'Advanced Appearance' but cannot find the one that changes this! (takes forever)
Cheers,
Bill.
Thanks a lot guys, gpalmer711 got it, for some reason the drive was disabled in TweakUI.
I think the drive letter had changed or something, the player took that letter and then dissapeared.
It's an iRiver H120 by the way, I well recommend them!
Cheers
Bill.
This is related to another problem I've been having (I think)with a dodgy drive.

Since this happened my USB2 HD mp3 player isn't working quite as it should on this machine (works fine elsewhere)
Basically you can still access it, but it doesn't show in 'My Computer', or...
Thanks guys, and sorry, should have made that a little clearer - Computer has two users on it, but we're getting the 'Windows 2000' style login, instead of the easier to use (for the kids at my school) 'Windows XP' style, one-click and you're in Welcome screen.
Cheers
I want to set up O2003 to use a different dialing prefix (for cheap rates) when I dial a mobile (cell-phone) number - any way I can do this? At the moment it seems to have only local + international options.
