Ok I found out the problem.
The shares contain .AppleDB and .AppleDesktop directories.
Simply delete them, and the problem disappears.

Hi - forgive me, I'm not a mac user but a linux sytem admin thats taken over the support for a system.
The linux server is running atalkd, and was working perfectly until last wednesday evening. The next day the client tried to log in and finder now freezes.
