Extending Decimal Places in numeric field

I have a field defined as numeric but when I change the decimal place to 4 instead of 2 I get 4 decimals but it seems to be rounding down and placing zeros in the last 2 decimal places. Example. Entered as 5.6785 is displayed & calculating as 5.6700. Does anyone know how to fix this...
