Hi once more,
I've had a chance to read through the other threads recommended by linney:
1. Error 773 thread
looks like my friend's laptop has an extra comms service called IPX/SPX that I don't have, so I guess that's why I get the error thrown up when I try to connect with his system?
2...
Hi again,
I received some excellent advice from a Tek-Tips member linney regarding losing comms after uninstalling SP3:
http://www.tek-tips.com/faqs.cfm?fid=4625
The Winsock fix mentioned absolutely fixed my loss of comms problem, now just gotta get the original problem solved & it's happy days.
Oh, I forgot to thank Ken (cckens) for his excellent instruction of how to save config text files from the command prompt.
I had no idea how to do that previously; works a treat.
I used it together with the instructions in the thread that linney gave me about the Winsock issue. That allowed...
Hi again folks, thanks so very much for your continued support, I greatly appreciate it.

Yes, my office router private IP range is 192.168.11.1/254 whereas my home router private IP range is 192.168.1.1/254.
I've even tried setting the office router to 192.168.22.1/254 but...
Hi again folks,
I've got my laptop going again, but now it won't connect to any XP VPN connections, so I've obviously mucked something up there big time, gotta keep investigating that.
In the meantime, I've tried using my friend's laptop to connect via a XP VPN and although I can connect, as...

Thanks guys,
I've been off the air for a while, after reading a forum thread on MS about a similar issue with XP SP3.
It recommended uninstalling SP3 and installing a later version of it.
Unfortunately for me, after uninstalling SP3, my laptop has stopped communicating all together.
So, as...
Thanks smah,
1. Yes, the cameras do work as expected via both the internal network & also via a ROUTER to ROUTER initiated VPN PPTP connection. However, does not from a WIN XP to ROUTER initiated VPN PPTP connection.
2. Yes, I've set the work network to be 192.168.22.*** and remote is...
Thanks Burt,
I'm a bit lost by all that, so I hope the following clarifies things:
I'm led to believe that PortForwarding is much less secure than VPN, so I'd really like to get VPN up if I can as I don't want others to "happen bye" my camera feeds.
I've executed a TraceRoute (just learned...
OK,
I've executed the TraceRoute and it goes nowhere; all "Request Timed Out".
As a matter of interest, I've jammed in another Billion Router on the client side, set up a VPN Dialout that matches a VPN Dialin on the work router.
As you may have guessed, I'm able to use the connection as...
Thanks again Davetoo,
I've heard of traceroute before but never knew it was command line instruction until I just tried your instruction "tracert 192.168.1.1", magic, thanks I've learned something else neat.
I'll give that a run from home this afternoon & see (as you suggest) where it dies...
Thanks again folks,
Ken:
That all makes sense (I think...) I'll try that when I get home this afternoon.
Davetoo:
When I get the VPN "Connection Successful" confirmation, it tells me that I am assigned a LAN IP address that is consistent with my work router settings, eg ...
Thanks Burtsbees,
this forum really should have a user-group of "NOVICE", as that's exactly what I am.
I don't really want to browse the internet per se, but I can see why this would be handy.
I'm not at all across what you mean by:
"...the vpn pool that hands out addresses to the XP...
Thanks for all the advice,

I've tried both enabling & disabling the "Use Default Gateway" but no change. As for the IP Routing (LAN), I can't seem to find option like this, so my inexperience is hurting me.

I can see that I'm connected to the work LAN via...
Hi, I'm a complete NOOBIE with all things networkable, so please forgive me.
As a result of constant vandalisim at my business, I've recently installed a couple of Axis IP Cameras, which are attached to my Billion ADSL Router.
I've created both a PPTP and a L2TP LAN-to-LAN VPN entries in the...
