They definitely are not read-only.
It's odd that the vast bulk of the failures are around files that are usually temporary or use "strange" lock methods i.e. a lot of .PST files, Word/Office temp files and so on.
The basic issue is that we're using this to recover quickly in the event of DR...
OK still got this issue.
Both source and destination are 2003 R2 x64.
Galaxy 8.0 SP3.
Formatted the destination LUNs and created new pairs and did a full re-sync which took pretty much all weekend.
Low and behold tonight I'm greeted with a bunch of folders on the destination that don't...
Books Online don’t go into great detail as to exactly what the difference is between these two options when setting up Replication Sets.
Can anyone expand a little please?
Our main file server (2003 R2 x64) has around 8tb of data on it.
We currently do the following:
One way replication to a DR box on the other end of our site.
Backup to LTO3 tape via a twin drive SAS attached library on the following schedule:
Mon-Thurs - Incremental
Fri - Full
Incrementals...
Yes thanks for the reply - I spoke with Commvault Technical who explained (what is with hindsight blindingly obvious) that the recommended way is to simply shutdown the server and rebuild it as it mimicks a disaster situation where you've lost your server and when you reinstall the components...
I need to totally rebuild one of our servers, Windows 2003 R2 32 bit running Galaxy 8.0.
It's a FS iDA, CDR source, and an MA with a direct (SAS) attached LTO library.
I need to rebuild it so it's running 2003 R2 x64.
As I understand it, uninstalling and then reinstalling CDR and the FS iDA...
We have CDR replicating from a source file server to a destination file server. I have a row of green lights in Data Replication Monitor.
However, when I look at the “Failed Files” for each pair, I see various failures such as:
• 05/28/09 17:13:54 F:\ LUN1_Replica\$Extend\$ObjId Error: 2
•...
OK issues encountered so far:
Backups to an LTO4 library gave an error of "Unable to disable hardware encryption" (that we don't want to use) - a hotfix/patch 11606 fixed that.
This may not be specific to the upgrade but because of the above, I quickly moved a storage policy copy to use a...
Interesting - granted Books Online is never exactly a "fun" read but it made it sound fairly straightforward or is that as you say mainly with the later versions?
To expand a little, we're not looking to do mission critical absolute real-time replication, but we have a bunch of storage and a...
We've used Commvault for a few years so it seemed the obvious choice to "keep it under one roof" when we wanted to replicate data from our main server to a server in our DR site (which is on the end of a multi-gbps LAN link).
I've finally got downtime scheduled tomorrow to install CDR and any...
It transpires there's a MediaAgent update that fixes this, however prior to the hotfix (11606) I did have one set of backups run after logging into the tape library web GUI and setting "Encryption" from "None" to "Application Managed" (which I guess means let Commvault manage it and tell it we...
Woohoo!!
Updated Galaxy today to 8.0 and my first backup job just ran and failed:
Error Code: [40:99]
Description: Failed to disable hardware encryption on the hardware device. Please make sure that your device supports hardware encryption and it's functioning correctly.
Windows x64 media...
We're on 7.0 SP5 and our upgrade kit has arrived.
Our CommServe is a VM so I can do a DR backup and a VM snapshot prior to the upgrade, but of course I'd like to get a feel for how people have found the upgrade process to have gone?
I think some of it comes down to the sizes of the files - we don't have a file server full of large files, there are millions of small ones where I believe the nature of Windows File Handling API's means you need lots of parallel reads to get a decent speed.
It does also backup other clients, though much much smaller.
Basically I find the readers/streams issue "confusing" at best - I just know that when all my jobs are running, if I look in the Job Controller at the "Number Of Readers" column, it always shows, as a maximum, the result of "streams x...
I'm struggling to get what I think is the optimum throughput from my main file server.
The basic issue is that I have a file server which has a twin drive LTO3 library attached (so it's also a mediaagent) and the data volumes on the file server are on a 4gb/sec SAN so are reasonably quick.
A...
The documentation is there, but it's no use when the thing doesn't work, or when you need a log deciphering.
I noticed the documentation in 8.0 for the DCE has been updated which makes me at least hope the 8.0 DCE is new and hopefully improved.
It was change journal. Looks from the DCE logs as if I had one volume that took hours (about 8 as you say) before they show the database as being initialized.
Fingers crossed for the next incremental!
