If I enable encapsulation ppp on an Cisco serial interface then my sco box cannot ping the remote router, take it off and it works again. This wasn't a problem when we were running a serial connection but now we want to run over a BRI interface can anyone explain a solution.

Presuming you are running Metaframe on an NT or 2ooo server then you may need to download the Windows Messaging service for NT from the Novell website.
The two routers can connect to each other with no problem, I have put a static route in Sco to point to the far end network via the local router. If you do a traceroute to the far end router it knows to go via the local router but cann't reach the far end. There are no translations involved.
