    Thanks for all the assistance and ideas, the problem is solved. It turned out to be the media converters which by default (for reasons only known to the manufacturer) were set to half duplex. I pulled them apart switched the jumpers and hey presto 1 100BaseT LAN working like a dream. Regards Rewas
