Thanks for the reply.
I believe that we are running software V6 and having checked there is no System IP address field to be able to change... I read somewhere that it needs to be done via a console cable which is well beyond me!
Looking like I need to pay a tech to come in for a day and sort us...
So I have inherited a very old Mitel 3300 phone system that is not under any form of support contract and so cannot be upgraded.
It's that old that I have to have a Win XP VM running IE6 in order to administer it as any more recent browser will not work.
Anyway - we are undertaking a complete...
To close this off and in case anyone else should find it, the issue was caused by some changes to the firewall infrastructure that our managed ISP made.... apparently to do with disabling proxy-arp and enabling strict uRPF - this seems to have caused the issue - confirmed when they rolled back...
I have a strange issue with my Avaya IP Office 500 system that I can't seem to solve.
I have a little experience with Avaya but am not an expert by any means.
Our system is set so that Voicemail Pro answers every switchboard call with a recorded message (press 1 for this, 2 for that etc)
The...
OK, My fault for not making things 100% clear.
VSAT router to Internet Port on Draytek.
Server to Cnet 2400
cnet 2400 to gigabit port on draytek
Draytek has been given local IP 192.168.1.1
server is set so that the one nic has
IP 192.168.1.100
subnet 255.255.255.0

Nope, no management functionality to the unit at all as far as I can tell from google searches. (there are certainly no RS232 or similar ports on the unit itself)
It would appear I'm not....
My translation of the labels on the unit from Portuguese into English was flawed!!
A google search reveals that the unit (a Cnet 2400) is actually a switch.
Still have the same problem though!
Whilst trying to insert a Draytek unit into our network today I have come across a strange issue.
If I connect my satellite router to the Draytek and the draytek into my test switch and then plug my server into the test switch then everything functions fine, the server has Internet, I can...
Just to update this thread with a resolution in case anyone with the same problem comes searching.
It seems that the problem was due to the fact that our although our Win 2003 server was handling DHCP and NAT duties, the i-direct also still had NAT and DHCP server turned on.
Turned those 2...
The router is an i-Direct 3000 satellite internet router, it's managed by the ISP, so there's little I can do to it firmware wise.
The ISP are saying that the reason why my connection stops working is that the number of "sessions" originating from my LAN reaches their max allowed limit and so...
I do have a second NIC enabled in the machine, this is connected to my network switch (the Internet router is connected to NIC1, the hub to NIC2)
To get it working again, I manually reboot the Internet router.
Said Internet router is connected to a UPS.
Does this help further?
When it packed up this morning I tested the following
ping via name - dns resolved, ping failed
ping via IP address - fails
traceroute - route gets to internet router in 1 hop then fails
pathping - ping gets to internet router in 2 hops then fails.
Recursive DNS test passed.
Any further ideas?
OK
technome - have done this, no difference.
we were stable for a couple of hours then it went again.
lhuegle - have done this, both server and workstation - again no difference, it still falls over.
Any further suggestions?
Strange Problem here with Win 2003, may be caused by DNS, I'm not sure.
Periodically, the Internet connection at all of my workstations and my server drops out.
When this happens, DNS can still resolve a web address to an IP address, but pings time out.
Checking DNS on the server, the simple...
I'm actually considering removing the RV042 from the chain in case it's somehow causing the problem.
I assume if I do this then it's just a case of changing the gateway on NIC1 and the DHCP scope to point to 192.168.0.1
When the Internet stopped working this morning, the constant ping I set up...
At one time or another I had both symptoms above!
the satellite router issues IP addresses dynamically.
When I plug the laptop straight in, it gives me an address of 192.168.0.3 with a default gateway and dns of 192.168.0.1 which is the ip address of the satellite router.
This morning I have...
Just another update
The Internet goes down, no response from web pages at all, however pings are perfect, DNS resolves instantly and ping times are good but no Internet.
The only way I've found to bring it back up is to power cycle the satellite router.
Any ideas as to what I'm missing here?
I think I jinxed it, connection stayed up for an hour then died again.
No ping response etc.
Connected the laptop straight into the satellite router. All working.
Any further ideas?
