    As you were... exporting to Photoshop works great. On the basis of an experience some time ago - which I can't fully remember, I ruled this out. Should work...they are from the same stable...

    Thanks for the suggestion re .swg. I tried it and it got imported into Vegas. However some elements - shadows - were up the creek. I'll fiddle around a bit more with it to see if it can be improved.
