Setup: Home or small business broadband connection via a Cisco 678 DSL modem/router and Windows 2000 Pro SP2. Nortel Extranet Access Client (EAC) to establish VPN connection.
DHCP, DNS, and NAT are set up on the Cisco DSL modem/router. The router's DHCP server will connect to the ISP ip...
And I'm back once again.
I figured it out. Holy bytes of NAT tables, Batman!
Going back to my setup, I have a broadband connection via a Cisco 678 DSL modem/router and 4 port switch. Windows 2000 Pro-SP2.
I had set up MS VPN, and since it worked, never went back to figure out Nortel. I...
What ever VPN solution you decide on, make sure you have support resources that can help DSL/Cable/LAN end-users deal with issues relating to routers (NAT, ports, etc). IPSEC/VPN is a nasty mess and even advanced users will have trouble.
Do I sound bitter? Hmm, maybe I am ;-)
jcmercure: "Opened ports 50,51,500 and 1723 to both TCP and UDP traffic."
Remove 51. I ran across doco that said that this port may cause issues.
I may not know what I'm talking about because I still cannot get 415D to work. =P
I had MS VPN working, but now it won't connect either...
Hello again =)

I've fiddled with the ports in NAT: 500, 50, (NOT 51!)...
Well, I made the Nortel Extranet Client irrelevant, in my case.
I recently upgraded my home PC to Win2K (things in general seen to work much better) but still no luck with the Nortel client. Thankfully my company's IS team put together the option of using Microsoft VPN on the same server.
I...
Thanks for the reply =)
>The fact that you are not seeing corporate >ressources force me to ask these questions:
>What domain/workgroup are you set up for?
My domain/workgroup is set to the name I use at work (I need to do this for RAS as weel to browse the network shares).
>Do you have...
RAS as a service is not supported in Win98, but there is a goofy little sibling called "Dial-Up Server" under "Connections" in "Dial-Up Networking". I have not had much luck with it. The modem handshake usually completes, but the network properties are wanky.
You...
Hi all, I'm new to the forums =)
I have researched this subject quite a bit, websites, fora (including this one) but have not found much about my problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.
My company provides two methods of remote access. RAS (MS) dial-up and VPN (Nortel Extranet). The RAS...
