Mike: Thanks for your response. Yes, I did try setting $> & $< to constants rather than using getpwnam(). What seems to be happening is that $> & $< affects the script's privileges, making them those of the user I retrieved via getpwname(), but does not affect the script's environment...- cmcclain0831
