    @badbigben sterically hindered polyester (shp) is the lubricant but couldn't find specific details. @goombawaho Ok, 2 drives (1 of which has a split partition) are the full backup of the active 3. So I already have my backup drives powered off besides probably synchronizing updates every month...

    I have about 6 HDD's , 3 are used to keep a full backup of everything I have. I started wondering since I often don't access anything more then a few gigs every month I should keep them powered off to preserve their life. Is this a good or bad idea as I'm not sure whats the best of both...
