I got in 6 new ones to put in my Dell 136t. The tapes are holding more than twice the data it seems. I am having a problem with the communication somewhere. After several jobs, one of my tapes will never load and just sit in the drive. Need to get this worked out, then I can judge it better.
This is definetly a 9.0 issue. It was never like this in 8.6. Last tech I ask about his, had me created a new catalog folder and that did not work either. they really need toget this fixed. As much data as I back up, it is a major problem.
Ever since upgrading to 9.0 and the service pack, when I go to restore a file my directory structure is all out of order. It used to be in order by date. Now it is just random. Veritas had me move all the files out of the catalog folder so it would build a new one. It did, but it is still the...
If I have a tape library with 50 tapes. I erase them all and let Arcserve label them with the date/time stamp at the beginning of thier use. Arcserve will only have 6 different names until all 50 tapes are used. One name for each drive. Also these tapes are read by the library by barcode tags...
I am backing up about 800 gig a night. With Dlt VI I was stretching the limit. With 6 drives I was using about 8 tapes a day and it too about 10 hours. I just got a Dell 136 Super Dlt library with 6 drives. I use about 3 tapes a day and it takes about 4 hours. It flys!! As long as Arcserve is...
What baffles me is that after dealing with Computer Associates, Overland and Dell for the last 5 months, no one has even suggested a full erase. The last Arcserve tech did have me do a quick erase plus, which is the second of three options. Surely I am not the only one having this problem...
My boss seems to think he has found the problem. After rebuilding a new server and hooking everything up, we ran backups. Within 2 minutes we got scsi error, unrecoverable media error. Somewhere in the next 24 hours we decided to erase the brand new tapes using the full erase option. This took 2...
Thanks "Montanablue2", glad to see there is someone there to exonerate me. You are absolutely right! Ever since I started approaching 700 gigs of data a night and switched over to a tape library, I started having to babysit the backups every night. Before that, I changed the tapes...
I tried that patch a month ago. It is posted on the site. It had no effect on mine. I think your problem is a lot different than mine. I get 80 percent of my jobs to run and finish. It's just that I lose a tape drive in the rotation each night due toa media error, whick screws up the whole order...
If you are on a small network and only backing up small amounts of data, then Arcserve may work just fine. I am doing full backups every night on one terra byte of data and since I have moved over to a tape library from a single drive setup, it has never worked right. Always scsi errors. I have...
I have given up on the Dell Quad Zeon server with a 39160 scsi card installed. I am going to move the whole library to a Dell 4400 with on board scsi. This server was used as a backup server on another network with a tape library and never had any errors. If this one does not work, then I know...
Sorry to hear your sufferring like me. I just had my boss buy a Dell T136 Library with 6 SDLT drives and a Adaptec 39160 scsi card to go with it. You cant get any better hardware than that. I got it installed today and ran through about 5 tapes and then "Unrecoverable Media Error"...
Yes I believe I did. I am sure it is. It is very common drive. I just seems strange that everything works fine for 3 days. Both libraries go through 5 or 6 tapes and then it just starts having errors. Once you reload the tapes and reboot everything it seems to do the same thing. Work for a...
What do you mean Nt drivers? This is a 2000 server. And I have the drivers loaded as Overland suggest. I use no Overland drivers for the librarys, only 2000 drivers. I do not have drivers loaded for the tape drives either. This is how Arcserve has always handled these drives. I just connect up...
I have been using Arcserve for 4 years and it was ok until I got these tape libraries and super dlt drives. It would be different if it never worked at all, but I get 3 days of perfect backups and then the dreaded cant read, position or find media errors surfaces. I need someone to recomend a...
The error I cant get rid of, and that is crashing my whole backup schedule is E6096 Media Error. Even though there are 3 more drives available, any job that attempts to use the one bad drive or tape will time out and cancel, so I lose about 25% of my jobs. I have tried 5 new batches of tapes...
I have 2 new Overland Miniexpress Libraries with 4 sdlt 8000 drives. Both running on adaptec 2940 scsi cards. Win 2000 and Arcserve 2000. It will run for a few days and then I always get canceled jobs because of "unable to write to media" e3714" or e6914 error. Overland has...
I have been fighting Media errors ever since I got this new Super Dlt express library. It worked great on the first 150 tapes and then when I got in a new batch of tapes, I kept getting Media Error, Cant find blank media. I returned and recieved probably about another 200 tapes with the same...
