Perhaps I should add the errors:
ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 8, key = 5, asc = 2s, ascq = 0
tar: /dev/ht0: Cannot read: Input/output error
tar: At beginning of tape, quitting now
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

I have a working RedHat 7.0 installation with a 4GB HP IDE Tape drive using tar for backups. I have upgraded to 7.1 and cannot get tar to read the drive (/dev/ht0). mt works okay ie: mt -f /dev/ht0 rewind.
What has changed in RH7.1 ? Is there a setting for tar with the drive that wasn't needed...
