Thanks to the help that I've gotten here, I've been able to set up a 13 PC network/computer lab with Active Directory, among other things, for my class room.
However, I can't seem to have more than 5 students connected at once.
I've installed Terminal Services and Terminal Services Licensing...
Thanks for the tips.
I've also read that restarting the NETLOGON service should fix this sort of issue, but so far no luck.
I created a test user and added a lab computer onto the domain and it took forever to log in. Is that relevant?
Thanks.
Long story short, I was deleting extra DNS servers that I experimented with on a new server install. I also ignorantly deleted the MSDCS folders that installed with Active Directory.
How does one relink/recreate Active Directory to work with this DNS?
Simply connecting to/refreshing the...
Update. Posted for others down the road.
Two hours later everything seems to have smoothed out, even the DHCP client issues.
I think it was a matter of IP conflicts on the network. Could it be that the IPs on existing computers expired/were retired and new ones doled out?
Stay tuned for the...
Hello. You may remember from such threads as "help, I'm in over my head" and "Non-techie stuck as network admin"...
Anyway, I'm setting up a small computer lab for my students and have been having fits getting the DNS/Active Directory and DHCP/WINS servers installed and configured.
I've had...
you dont have to reconfigure anything at all except its wise to disable the routers DHCP server and let your new server handle it."
Thanks, mate. I'm dense, but now I finally get it.
Danka.
Thanks all.
I'll use static DHCP to reserve the IP address for the server, install DCHP and WINS, and then have the workstations join the "labserver.local" domain.
Will the router and server still fight to issue IP addresses even if the workstations are now on the server's domain? I'm not...
Add on:
I just seen the "disable DHCP" on the router bit.
I don't think that will be doable as the router is shared with a classroom in an adjacent building. Doing that would undoubtably cause them some grief.
Can I have the clients join the domain of the server with DHCP from the router...
Thanks for the quick response.
By client, you mean any computer that is connected to the computer, correct?
I do not need a DHCP server as the "clients" are in parallel with the server and connect to the hub on their own. I might add a second router to my second network card at a later date...
I wear too many hats in my new gig, one of them being the computer networking guy.
I have a computer lab of 10 connected PCs that connect to wall jacks and ultimately a shared router in another building.
I've came across a server and purchased a charity license for Win 2003 with 20 CALs.
I...
