    2007 - Shift + Rollerwheel on mouse..

    You can still do the pan with the ortho lock in 2007. Instead of hitting Shift+middle mouse button (3dorbit) you have to hit middle mouse button first to initiate the pan command and then hold the shift key before you move. It locks into orthomode automatically.
