I have several stacks of the 5510's deployed. We are slowly upgrading to them from our old Baystack 450's. Anyway, the first few stacks are in our PCI DMZ so they are monitored by a TripWire device. The TripWire monitors the switch for any config changes and reports them to us.
I told you guys...
Hi all,
I am trying to get some 5510's set up with snmpv3 to take advantage of multiple individual account user creation and password encryption as required for PCI compliance as PCI says that you cant have shared usernames/passwords blah blah blah, I won't bore you with the particulars...
Out of curiosity, have you checked your firewall settings? Have you added any new software/hardware drivers just before this started happening? Or and Windows Updates for that matter? Last but not least, have you checked your system for spyware just to be sure?

Well I guess it all comes down to how many boxes you want to connect up down stairs. If its just the one PC, then really the best thing to do is to either get a USB Wireless Adapter or a wireless expansion card
If you are talking about multiple machines, look into getting something like a...
rclarke250 is right on the money as far as the N issues go.
However, if it's a Linksys then you may or may not be able to replace the antennas. Most of the older models had removable antennas (2Dbi) and can easily be replaces with the larger versions you can find for $30 bucks or so (4 and 7...
They can be a little tricky but MikroTik AP's can do this. They are rather inexpensive ($200 roughly) but can integrate with most RADIUS servers and whatnot and support web interfaces on the AP's themselves.
Check out www.wisp-router.com and www.mikrotik.com for more info to see if that's a...
Hi Xion,
I am assuming you want to be able to create user accounts with passwords for client identification. There are a couple of ways to accomplish this.
One is to get some access points that will integrate with active directory so that any AD credentials you set up would also apply to the...
For the record, there are no wireless devices with Gigabit speeds. If your laptop says it is capable of gigabit speeds then it is referring to its wired NIC and not its wireless one.
The max currently capable to an end user via wireless in a Greenfield environment (lab/testing area) is about...
Well i ended up having to divide up my public IP's into different subnets and then VLAN the clients out in case anyone ever reads this for the same problem.

Ok, I have a client who needs to put the public IP's I have for him on his boxes instead of letting me put one of my locals on it and the doing a standard static nat on my router. So how do I push his public IP's on his boxes through my switch and router?
any command or search suggestions?
As...
Burt (as always you are the man) and Vince thanks a ton! and North, its a Cisco 2611. Great little router, now if I can just get the damn thing configured correctly LOL.

Anyone know the commands on a Cisco router to block certain public IP's from the network? I cant afford a real firewall yet and the solution continues to elude me.
Any help is appreciated!

I got a new server (well new to me, its a hand-me-down from another division) and its great but it looks like I am going to need to convert it for video/graphics work. The problem is that the software I need to use won't run as it cannot find any 3D devices.
Ok, no problem right, just need a...
Hey Burt,
The router would connect to a Time Warner Cable modem via standard Ethernet patch cable. It would mainly need to handle a fair amount of static NAT settings and possibly DHCP but not sure if I am going to that or not but I want the ability to do so. There would be a max of 150 or so...
I am looking for a lower end (but not garbage) router that does all of your basic router functions along with being able to do static NAT and possibly DHCP. Any suggestions on something that won't "break the bank"?
Our core router is a Cisco 7200 VXR and runs out some bonded T's but this one...
Ok gang, I could use a little help as i am stumped on this one. I have an Acer 9503EWSMi notebook. Recently the USB ports started to randomly fail on me. I would just be clicking away with my mouse (either my old wired ball mouse or my wireless Logitech mouse) and it would just stop working...
I would have to agree with G0AOZ on this one. Even if you were able to put one heck of a strong wireless router in the subdivision, the size of a parabolic antenna you would need on the other end to be sensitive enough would be at least a meter. The only meter size parabolic I know of are for...
