I had a 0x0000007B stop error when I moved a drive to another computer and tried using a different OS repair disk - I was inadvertently using XP Pro to attempt to repair an XP Home based hard drive.
I finally noticed I was using the wrong OS and tried using an XP Home restore CD and it worked...
