I found the problem on another site!! It has to do with Norton Antovirus 2006 turning off Office plug-ins. I turned off the option and now I can connect to SQL2005.

I entered that missing line and the registry was updated, but when I click on "ODBC databases" in the drop down selection, it still disappears and nothing happens. I rebooted the machine and I also opened a new access database to see if that changed.

I looked at the registry and there is no line for "ImportFilter"="ODBC Databases ()". The other values seem to be correct.

I tried the registry idea, copying it into a text file with an .reg extension. I get an error that says " The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor"
