Unable to connect using Net service name

rror installing php 5 with mysql support on rhel 5
have mysql 5 installed on: /usr/local/mysql to install php 5.2.4, i ran configure as follows: ./configure --with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql --with-mysqli=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config that goes through fine. but when i run make, i get this error message... -
