    Maybe you are right, but my guess was based on > DISPLAY=172.31.30.24:0 is not an identifier GT.

    It is obviously that you are using sh and not ksh shell, so the export command should be taken in two steps...like: DISPLAY=xx.xx.xx.xx:0.0 export DISPLAY then start opc.... Hope this helps, GT.
