Try creating a new user, use that user and watch how fast it runs.

OK, Try to go to folder options, go to file types and select the jpeg file type(or add it) and select the program you want to open it.

This has happend to me also on some machines.
Just for clarity, did you do the following:
1. Check Drivers
2. Check system messages using Computer Management?
3. Check to see if the drive was broken <- this was my problem -God Bless
Try Bootvis.exe. It is a Windows Powertoy that re-arranges some files on the Hard Drive to make the computer start alot faster.

Sorry, i posted a solution but lost the connection. anyway, try right clicking the desktop->arrange icons. make sure that "show desktop icons is checked. if it is then uncheck it and check it again.

If I were you, I'd bother your boss endlessly with this. Anyway, ad-aware should take care of this. Try looking in the Dr. Watson snapshot file. Hopefully the file did not attach itself to another exe on startup; if it did not, then it'll have a task and a startup item in msconfig. -God Bless
